Welcome, 2024!!

 Welcome, 2024!!

It's been a while since the last time I actually posted anything here on the blog. Would you believe I only had one post last year! Lol! Just so you know, I started vlogging last year. It was fun definitely but iba pa rin talaga ang old school blogging like this. Hindi pa rin kasi ganon ka kapal ang mukha ko to vlog in front of people, haha!

Anyway, I'd like to share here some of the highlights of our 2023. I didn't even feel like we had a lot of things happen but looking back, I realized that we received a lot of blessings too!

Here are some of the highlights of our life in 2023 from a monthly perspective.

January 2023

I attended my cousin/sister from another mother. She actually got married a year before. Because of COVID-19 cases rising, she has to do plan B of having a civil wedding even though ready na talaga ang lahat for their church wedding. Same-same, naiyak na naman ako sa walking down the aisle na yan, haha! I am so happy for her!!

February 2023

Daryl and I's passports expired in 2022. I was contemplating if we had to renew last year kasi hindi rin naman biro ang expense to get a passport pero syempre I wanted us to go out of the country din so I have decided to renew both our passports. Later on, I got the kids' passports, too. I was surprised na ang bilis lang when I took the courier service for the kids versus when I picked it up (for me and Daryl's passports).

Later that month, I decided to start our own YouTube channel. I realized na masaya din yung meron kang video remembrance of all the fun things that we do as a family versus mga pictures lang. :)

March 2023

We discovered that there's a Kidzoona in SM Sucat. It was Vince's first time going to the playground like this so it was a very exciting time for him. He loves slides so much kaya sulit na sulit ang bayad namin. Lol!

April 2023

For Daddy's birthday, we stayed at Hotel 101 for a night. I did a review of the hotel on our YouTube channel here

May 2023

We moved into our own home!!! It was such a huge milestone for our family. We started buying this house in 2020, during the pandemic. It was on a preselling status at the time and it took 3 years for us to finally move in. We got the keys in October 2022 but it was too late for us to move in because Dwyane's already enrolled in a school in Las Pinas so we opted to finish the school year before moving in.

June 2023

For Vince's birthday, we went to Wetpark Adventure Lagoon in Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig. I vlogged about our experience here, including some tips and total expenses.

July 2023

Daryl and I celebrated our jowa-anniversary with a couple massages in Banahaw Heals Spa and capped it off with a dinner at Ippon Yari. We tried their ramen and for us, it's a so-so, lol!

August 2023

We enrolled Kuya Dwyane in a school 5 km away from our house. Our house is more or less 1km away from the highway so we bought an electric bike as our service.

September 2023

Daryl and I went to our high school alma mater for an alumni basketball game. It was so much fun watching and seeing some familiar faces and reminiscing about my high school life, lol! Nakakakilig pa kasi it's actually the first time and I went there with Daryl and honestly, we never saw each other when we were in school kahit pa sobrang lapit lang namin sa isa't isa. Never kaming nagkakilala, haha!

October 2023

For Kuya Dwyane's birthday, we opted to arrange loot bags for all of his classmates. Happy naman sya giving it away to his classmates.

November 2023

We went to Taiwan!!! I didn't expect that I would enjoy Taiwan so much and it instantly became my favorite country to go so far. As if kala mo ang dami ko ng napuntahan, haha! Mas favorite ko sya kesa sa Hong Kong. I vlogged about our trip on our Youtube channel. You can watch the full playlist here  and let me know what you think. :)

December 2023

It's our first New Year's Eve in our new home. I prepared food just enough for us compared to previous years. Maybe because I am getting older so I started to appreciate that we have enough food to last us overnight or even the next day versus having lots of food in the ref na kailangan mong pilitin ubusin. It was less stressful preparing, less stressful in thinking sino ang kakain or saan dadalhin ang food. So I guess this will now be our new norm.

Overall, we had a great year! Kung hindi dahil sa mga review na ito, maiisip kong hindi naging maganda ang 2023 namin, pero hindi pala. Ang ganda, ang kulay at ang saya. Above all, we are all healthy, thriving and complete. Here's to hoping I will be blogging and vlogging more this 2024. :)

Have a blessed New Year everyone!!

Vince's 3rd birthday at McDonald's - Kiddie Party 2022

A lot of things changed since the pandemic, including how we celebrate birthday parties for kids. Two years ago, Jollibee and McDonald's offered birthday party venues and packages, but these parties were restricted due to health protocols.

With that two years passed and while the economy is starting to open again, I am so glad to hear that McDonald's finally opened its party venues at the start of the year. Although it wasn't our intention to celebrate grand parties this year because the boys are turning 3 and 9, it made me really excited to throw a small party for Vince. I remembered when Jami was the same age as Vince, he had two huge parties - Shakey's when he was 1 year old then Jollibee when he was 2 years old. I have decided that it's very timely that parties are already allowed for Vince to have a small celebration of his birthday too. So I think, it's his 1st to 3rd birthday in one. Hehe.

In May, I went to the nearest McDonald's branch in front of Robinson's Las Pinas but they said they don't offer parties yet. Super sayang because it was the closest to where we live. My next options are either in Pamplona or in front of SM Southmall. I have decided to visit the one in Pamplona since we have guests coming from Cavite and some other parts around the Metro and this is the closest to Las Pinas and Pasay/Cavite boundary. I also like this branch because they have a play area for kids (although still closed due to pandemic), Mccafe, drive-thru, and dining area, so basically a very busy branch.

When we got there, a party has just finished so I had an idea what it will look like. I am unsure at this point as to how many people we'll invite but I opted for 50 heads. Family ko pa lang, 20 heads na so I gave 30 more for Daryl and common friends. I also chose package 2 which has Spaghetti and Chicken, regular fries, drinks, and hot fudge sundae. I also opted to serve the same food for kids and adults.

The downpayment is 2,000 pesos and they gave 30 invitation cards on the set of you paying for the downpayment. I remember during Jami's time, I think it was only 1,000 pesos but it was 8 years ago. Haha. I also chose merienda time of 3pm to 5pm.

On the day of our party, we arrived just before 4pm and the crew was setting up the venue. It was a small venue but it was fine since we were expecting around 50 heads only.

I like that they have a bench in front and a small chair for the celebrant alone.

If you are from the South of Metro, you probably know how traffic is in Las Pinas especially on a Saturday afternoon so everybody was late, haha. Our guests started arriving at around 4:30pm.

The venue can accommodate more than 100 guests in two venues together. We were given the smallest one since we are expecting only 50 pax.

The cake is from Little Bites Cupcakery. This is the second time that I ordered a cake from them pero first time kong nag order ng fondant. I will blog about Dwyane's 7th birthday and Vince's first birthday too in the coming days. I borrowed my sister's jars and bought cookies and candies in the grocery.

Blowing of candles ng birthday celebrant. Just like the normal Jollibee/Mcdo party, they hosted 1 children's game and 1 adult game, then question and answer game tapos proceeded with blowing of candles and kainan na.

Binky, the birthday boy!

Children's game

Adult game

Finally, I met these beautiful girls that I am working with since 2020. My virtual kamaritess hahaha

Walang matinong kuha, napakalikot ni Griffin! Haha

Chow time!!

Overall, it was a great experience since the pandemic. Once in a while masarap din yung maranasan mo yung mga bagay noon diba? Although be very careful pa rin kasi pandemic pa rin and Covid cases are still high. I was glad that I gave Vince the party he never had for his 1st birthday so after 4 years na ulit ang kasunod pag 7 nya. Hehe.

New Year's Eve 2022

 Hey everyone!

Happy New Year!! Hope you all have a good start to the year 2022!

Just a quick update on how our January started. Our New Year's Eve went really well. I made sure we'll be wearing the color of the year shirt (which I want to make a yearly thing since 2016, lol!)

This year's color from Pantone is Very Peri. Ang hirap ng color na ito actually! Haha. We don't have violet clothes, I realized. I don't want to buy shirts that are violet in color or buy a family shirt with prints for New Year kasi they are quite expensive talaga so I thought of doing DIY this time. I watched Youtube videos on how to dye shirt using joboss. The struggle is finding a violet joboss. I ordered through Shoppee but wasn't sure if it will be delivered on the 29th.

I looked around dito sa area namin, but had trouble finding violet. Mostly red, blue colors lang ang available. I checked din sa National Bookstore pero sold out na daw, huhu!

I went to Baclaran to buy plain white shirt for the family. Round neck for the boys while I got the V-neck for me and Nanay. This is the first time that I tried dyeing shirt and was quite nervous, hehe! I did Vince's shirt first then Dwyane.

Vince's shirt went really well though mejo weak ang color. I wanted a little darker ng kaunti sana but it will do, I guess. The next shirt was Dwyane's. This time, super naging weak ang color and some of the parts were not dyed. Since bago yung shirt, it was so hard for the shirt to absorb the liquid. Dapat pala, I made the shirt wet then proceed with dyeing to make sure kapit ang kulay. Too late na so Dwyane's shirt wasn't colored as much as I want.

I did Nanay's shirt and I loved the result. Naabsorb kasi ng tela yung color easily and it was just the right color din. I went ahead and did Daryl and my shirt since I am confident dyeing from here on. Hehe!

This is actually the best photo na meron kami. Yearly, it's a struggle to take a nice family photo. Haha! Aside sa masikip ang house, ang hirap din mag pose ng mga batang ito, kainis!

For our Noche Buena, we had 2 kinds of pasta (Spaghetti and Carbonara), Caldereta, Barbeque, Shanghai, Biko and Maja, Buko Pandan and Fruit Salad. I invited my youngest brother and his family to celebrate NYE at home. The kids fell asleep just before 12 midnight so wala na kaming photos after this. Lol!

The next day, my brother got sick. On the 2nd of January, Daryl went home with a high fever, headache, and body pains. The next day, I felt I'm having bad colds then went sick that same afternoon. I have a fever but easily recover after drinking Paracetamol. No other symptoms aside from colds and a little cough. We had a teleconsultation for Daryl so he can have an RT-PCR request from a doctor.

The day Daryl and I are feeling a little better, Dwyane started getting feverish and Nanay started having bad colds, too. Later that afternoon, they both fell ill. When they started recovering after two days, Vince got feverish and fell ill that same day. I noticed the kids having really mild symptoms and only having fever. Nanay was complaining of being dizzy and she's coughing.

We looked for a testing center so Daryl can have RT-PCR. It's a requirement for him to be able to go back to work. We started looking on the 8th and were only able to book an appointment in Red Cross on the 10th of January. Daryl was feeling a lot better at the time of saliva testing.

At this time, we haven't received the result of the RT-PCR test from the Red Cross even after calling them yesterday to follow up. He wasn't able to come to work since the 3rd so I made him ask his superior since the quarantine requirement as per DOH is only for 10 days from the time you no longer have symptoms, sabi ko pasok na sya sa requirement. His employer allowed him to go back to work tomorrow and will have the PCR test to follow.

I am really glad that it wasn't something serious. If it's indeed Covid-19, I am thankful no one needs to be hospitalized and it was really just like flu for us. We're not feeling any symptoms now except Nanay who's still coughing. It was crazy, her prescription meds are not available anywhere. I even went to the next city because I was told by Mercury Drug that the meds I'm looking for are not available in every branch in Las Pinas. Crazy!!!!

Anyway, hope everyone is feeling a lot better and your family's doing awesome this 2022!

Hello Again!

Hey, everyone!!

It's been a long time that I have not posted anything here on the blog. I got so busy with life and a lot has happened in the last 3 years!

Imagine? My last post was in July 2018, which is our Father's day celebration (that happened in June but posted in July, lol!) So funny! Anyway, I was browsing through Instagram where I saw all the posts I made in the past. It seems that I also stopped posting on Instagram for some reason. My last post was in June 2021. While going through some posts, it reminded me why I was blogging before. I don't even care if anyone will read the blog, but I do it for my own purpose. I want to rekindle old thoughts, memories, etc. And honestly, it was so fun reading all of it. It reminds me of how far I have come, the good and the bad, and everything else in between. I was also reminded that this is what I do good. I love sharing my thoughts, I love talking, I never get tired of talking. Haha.

So, as I said, in the last three years, a lot happened. I don't even know where to start so bear with me as I organize my thoughts. As you know, I am not a very organized person.

I think one of the major things that happened in our family is having another bundle of joy. Yes! We had another baby boy. He was born on the 4th of June 2019 via VBAC (Vaginal Birth After C-section)
He's 2 years old at the moment and is our little kulit!! :)

Our New Year's Eve 2021

Another thing is that I finally had the courage to leave the corporate world! It was a blessing in disguise actually. I left a month before the pandemic hits our country. Now, I am working as a Virtual Assistant for my clients for a year and a half. This changed our lives for the better and I am forever grateful!

Vince's first birthday in June 2020

Seriously, I was really looking forward to 2020 just because I like the numbers, lol! I have so much planned for that year like getting married, celebrating the boys' 7th and 1st birthday but it didn't happen because of the pandemic. We celebrated at home with some family members and this made me realize that we actually don't need a big celebration. :)

This pandemic hit us really hard but be thankful that you're healthy and thriving despite all trials this year. :) I will probably post more life updates in the coming days. I'll just have to gather some photos left and right. Talk soon!

Father's Day at SM By The Bay, Mall of Asia

So it's the other half of 2018 and long over due pa rin ang posts ko! hahah!

Today, I am sharing our Father's Day escapades. It was unplanned actually but we all enjoyed the time we spent with each other before the school year starts.

Our plan was to eat out and buy Jami's school shoes for this school year. His old one no longer fits. We were very lucky to inherit the shoes from kuya Third, not to mention the brand, it was barely used. I was hoping we can still use it this year dahil sobrang maayos pa pero masakit na sa paa ni Jami. =(

Anyway, Daryl raised an idea in going to SM Mall of Asia to break our routine. Lagi kasi kaming sa SM Southmall so since Father's Day din naman, I said yes. We arrived after lunch so we looked for a place to have our super late lunch. We chose Tokyo-tokyo. Mejo madami na kasing gutom si Daryl so perfect ang unlimited rice. Haha!

Okonomiyaki and Sumo Meals

After our super filling meal, Daryl treated us with rides in SM by the Bay. I found out na sobrang dami na pala talagang rides dun, naging theme park na din halos. Perfect for family weekend bonding din ang place, mejo madami nga lang ang tao madalas.

I have been wanting to try the Moa Eye ever since. Although it won't be my first time since we rode the Sky eye in Sky Ranch Tagaytay, I still want to experience the one in Moa. There were booths just below the attraction where you can buy your tickets. Each ticket costs Php150 per head. Children 3 feet and below are free of charge. Jami's around 4 feet so we paid full amount for him. The line wasn't that long when we were there so after 15 minutes of waiting, we had our ride.

I would say na mejo luma na rin, ilang taon na rin naman kasi tong nakatayo. Some parts became rusty na although I felt safe while riding naman. The view of the city and the sea was nice too. Mas perfect if we made it before the sunset. However, it was raining the past few days before the day we went there so it's kinda cloudy, hindi tuloy kita ang beautiful sunset by the bay.

We also tried some of the rides, I just forgot what they are called pero sobrang expensive. Each ride costs Php 80-150 for only 5-10 minutes! =(

We saw Bumper Car which we want to try sana kaso sobrang haba ng pila. I bet Jami would love the driving part pero not the waiting in line part. Hahah! Nag proceed na lang kami sa ibang rides.

Our last stop was the games area. Sobrang expensive din. Each game costs Php 100-200 talaga eh! Jami tried the duck game where you have to catch 2-3 ducks and you should score 5-10 points to get a bigger stuffed toy.

He got less than 5 points kaya eto lang!

He named him Mr. Chicks! =)

Overall, ang mahal talaga sa SM by the Bay. It was worth a try but definitely not going to come back for these rides/games anytime soon.=)

Just before the dark kicks in, we decided to buy the shoes. We went to the department store to look for the perfect shoes. I realized mahal na talaga ang bilihin ngayon ano?! School shoes ranges from Php400-2,500 na talaga eh! Grabeng inflation! Anyway, we looked for several shoes that fits in with our budget kaso hindi ko type because of the quality. I am so glad we found one, however we went over the budget. Looking at the difference, I bet this is worth it versus those that are within our budget. Mukhang madali kasing masira, hindi nakatahi, or yung mga tipo ng shoes na nagbabakbak. I am just hoping this would last long. Haha!

Happy mid-week everyone! =)

Daryl's 29th Birthday

I was browsing through my old blog post specially those years na sobrang bata pa ni Jami (around 2015 and 2016). This is actually the best part of blogging because I can still read old stories of mine na totally forgotten! I am so thrilled everytime I read and reminds me of how our life has changed.

Anyway, I was looking into my posts in April and didn't find one for Daryl's 29th birthday!

Since it fell on a weekday, we decided to celebrate after work. Nagkataon kasi pareho kaming morning shift in April so we could have celebration over dinner. We went home together so we could buy food na lang as we don't have time to cook. We arrived in Las Pinas around 7pm.

Robinson's Las Pinas is just walking distance from home so we opted to buy fast food there rather than going to SM Southmall. Mejo traffic kasi going to Southmall although you will have plenty of food options talaga.

We bought Jollibee Spaghetti (in party size), Bucket of chicken, Family size pizza from Greenwich, a tub of ice cream sa grocery and a cake I bought in Conti's prior to going home. It was an intimate celebration but we loved it anyway! =)

We have another visitor that night, Bojo, Jami's playmate. They both sang happy birthday! Look how happy the boys are!

Of course hindi mawawala ang family picture plus 1. Hahah!

Nanay took this photo! Hehe. :)

Again, happy birthday babe! I know this wasn't like those you had when you were young but I am sure na hinding-hindi mo na ito ipagpapalit sa kahit ano man. Kumpleto kahit may lungkot at saya, basta ang mahalaga, sama-sama. Nyaks! hahaha! I wish you good health babe! Jami and I love you soooo much!

The Inns Hotel, Bacolod

During our Bacolod stay, my sister chose to book The Inns Hotel which was 10-15 minutes away from the port and walking distance from city proper. It was really convenient actually since my sister and I managed to go out at night to buy mineral water and toiletries in a nearby mercury drug store. We used our walking time for chismisan.

photo grabbed from Agoda.com

Anyway, we booked through Agoda.com. I took the Standard room for only Php 800/night.

We arrived in the hotel around 10pm as we took the latest schedule trip of fastcat coming from Ilo-ilo. I noticed na walang parking lot? I wasn't 100% sure on that but as far as I can remember, nai park lang ang car sa tapat ng hotel.

The lobby looks nice! It's clean and spacious. Upon entrance, you'll see their restaurant on your left while the stairs and elevators are on the right side. We took the keys and went upstairs immediately so we can rest. We were so tired from Guimaras tour that same day.

Our room was located at 4th floor. The standard room is just like what they have advertised on Agoda.com. Although the room has no view, it was completely fine. It was what I expected it to be although I wasn't satisfied with the AC being noisy and the room seemed dark. I mean hindi maaliwalas yung main lights, parang madilim. The bathroom was big enough with hot and cold shower. A television with selected channel which Jami used to kill some time. We had a double sized bed which somehow fit Nanay, Jami and I. There was a big closet too for our things plus a table and chairs on the side.

photo grabbed from Agoda.com

Meanwhile, my sister booked their Superior deluxe. Their room has a city view and a bath tub. It can also has an adjoining room for big families.

Our stay includes a buffet breakfast too. Although it has a very limited selection, it wasn't bad after all. We had a constrained time in the hotel due to our hectic schedule so I actually missed the opportunity to even take photos. Lol! Nakakapagod kasi talaga yung DIY itinerary ni ate but I liked it that way.

As I search for the hotel, I found out that it is now named The Bell Hotel in Agoda.com. I am not sure if they re-named the hotel.

Over all, staying at The Inns Hotel/ The Bell Hotel was a nice option specially if your budget conscious without compromising quality.

Family Trials

You know, I really love the month of June!

Aside from it being my birth month, I felt I receive more trials during this time of year, every year.

Hahaha! Exage! But yes, that's what I usually feel whenever my birthday comes.

The past couple of weeks, I was really stressed. Although we received good news too, I can't keep being happy for too long because of other things that we have to face.

Well, instead of dwelling into those negative things, I'll share with you those that are good ones. Sabi nga nila diba? Don't dwell on negativity. Be happy and the universe will conspire to make your wishes come true.

Char! Ako lang nag imbento nyan, but sort of like that yung mga kasabihan diba? Hahaha.

On June 14th, we had the chance to celebrate my birthday. I wasn't really expecting anymore since we have a lot of things to bear in mind first but Daryl, as he always does, want to make sure that I'll get to celebrate my birthday. We were originally planning to eat in Vikings but decided to eat somewhere else to save money.

The past weekend, we celebrated Father's Day in advance. We ate in Bonchon kasi favorite ni Daryl yung Bibimbow nila. Also we bought school supplies for Jami.

We decided to buy Jami's things in Robinson's Las Pinas para maiba lang. We always go to SM Southmall which at times, gets really crowded. I would say that mas madami lang talaga ang options in SM Southmall.

Jami had his first day of school yesterday!! For the past two days that I am observing him, I'll blog about it in a separate post. This is a such a big milestone I have to document it. Hehehe!

While I was really happy with Jami's new endeavor, I am equally happy with Daryl's first day at work. =) He was finally called to start and signed the contract. I know that he's excited with this just like I am.

So there, these are the things that I am really glad about despite of all the trials that the family faces now. To give you a hint, one of it was the "looking for nanny immediately" part. Since Daryl now have a job, no one will look after Jami. We need one really soon! I am hoping we could find one who would really take care of him, yun bang may malasakit.

Oh God! Please help us.

Gigantes - Guimaras - Bacolod Trip

Hi everyone!

I was out for the last 5 days because we had our major trip this year!=)

When I say major, yun yung mga sumasakay ng airplane. Hahahah! Or at least the farthest and longest vacation.

Anyway, My sister's gift to Jami was a plane ticket to Ilo-ilo. I was really happy, it's been ages since the last time we went on a trip like this together! (Last one was in 2013 - Puerto Princesa, Palawan). The only sad part was, Daryl couldn't join us on the trip because he was waiting for job confirmation. That was far more important than this trip so he was left behind.

If you have been following me on IG at @its_mommy_jen, you'll see that I have been uploading photos of our trip and don't forget to follow me. =)

My sister provided the itinerary. I always let her work on everything on all of our trips. It was always her that's very knowledgeable of all the places to visit so join lang ako ng join. Hehehe!

Yes! You read it right. The time of our flight was when the Resorts World Attack happened. There were news circulating at the time that it was the bad group. I told you the airport departure area was so strict. The whole place was really quite and there were no announcement of what's going on. Our flight was delayed for an hour.

Day 1

A post shared by Jen Alipio (@its_mommy_jen) on

It was for Islas de Gigantes. Our relatives from Nanay's side of the family joined us for our overnight stay. We even passed on their island on our way back to Estancia port the next day.

Day 2

We were supposed to be on a more tiring day but my sister decided to take the day off. Besides, we lack sleep the day before and Sabie was not feeling well too.

Day 3

We had our Day tour in Guimaras Island.

That same day, we rode fast cat going to Bacolod City.

Day 4

This day was one relax day, I would say. Hindi kami humada ng tours. We went to Silay houses including Balay Negrense.

Day 5

A post shared by Jen Alipio (@its_mommy_jen) on

The night of our 5th day was also our return flight to Manila. This travel was one of the most memorable one because Jami and I traveled together without his Daddy and our flight back was just the two of us with one 13kgs luggage, one backpack and some pasalubong.

All in all, I am very happy that all went well during the trip. We had the chance to travel far with relatives. Although it's really tiring and quite haggard, I would love it like that than a trip with nothing but beds and breakfast. =)

I'll blog about our trips to these islands and tourist spots separately.

Cheers to more travels!

Day Tour at Stilts Calatagan plus Budget Guide

On Mother's Day, we went to Stilts in Calatagan, Batangas. I have been looking to have some beach time over the past weeks and it was a last minute decision to pick Stilts.

I was looking for a nice resort in Batangas for months and I am really eyeing the Aquaria Beach and Waterpark resort. I found an all day pass on a discounted price but still find it expensive for a day tour. I am looking for a place where we could enjoy the beach and lounge on swimming pools at some point too.

As far as I can remember, Stilts offers a wonderful place to stay but with a very stiff price. I have read blogs about it and it looked really nice. It's on my radar for quite some time but can't afford to stay overnight.

As I said, on last minute, I came across Stilts Calatagan and their day tour rates when I searched for cheap day tours in Batangas. I was so glad to see that it's affordable despite of their expensive nightly rates. I immediately texted them and asked about their day tours. The person whom I exchange text message with (didn't get the chance to know his/her name and he/she didn't bother to introduce his/herself too) was every accommodating. He/She answered all my questions and was very prompt specially during the booking process.

I want to schedule our day tour on a Saturday, May 13, but was told they are fully booked. Good thing, they could still accommodate us the next day which was on Mother's Day! Yehey!! =) The only thing is that they no longer have huts available except their cozy nook.

I took it so we could push through with it. It was very timely to have a celebration anyway. =)

I was sent an email to reserve my slots and was asked to deposit 50% downpayment. Since it was on a Friday and I can't go to the nearest bank, I asked if I could just fund transfer which they agreed. I sent the screen shot of the deposit and immediately received a confirmation email of my booking.

We don't have a private car so we decided to commute our way to Calatagan.

How to Commute to Stilts Calatagan

We came from Pasay so from Mcdonalds in MRT Taft station, a terminal of buses to some parts of Luzon and Visayas are available. I asked about a bus going straight to Calatagan but was told there were no available buses to take us there. They offered to ride Nasugbu bound instead.

From MRT Taft Station, our bus took the Emilio Aguinaldo Highway in Cavite. The bus got so crowded in some part of Cavite up to Tagaytay so better to go on their terminals to secure seats. Bus fare from Pasay to Lian is Php150+ pesos. After 2 and a half hours of bus ride, we dropped off at 711 in Lian, Batangas. We walked on a street before it and saw the jeepney and tricycle terminal. We rode a jeep going to Calatagan Market that took about an hour. Jeepney fare was Php38.When we arrived in Calatagan Market, we bought mineral water and looked for a tricycle to take us to Stilts. Tricycle ride is Php40/head.

Tip: There are other bus terminal around metro manila that you can go to. There are van in Metropoint in MRT Taft too that could take you to Calatagan for a higher price. You could also choose to go to Buendia since bus from Calatagan to Manila have terminal there or go to bus terminal in Coastal Mall (update - Macapagal terminal). In that way. you can avoid the hassle of commuting longer and save time and energy for your day tour. Alabang also has a terminal in South Station for buses bound to Batangas.

Start of Day Tour

We arrived at Stilts around 9:30am. The guard asked us for our name and checked the reservations. There was another guard shortly after and it was our tricycle driver who advised them of our booking. The driver dropped us off on the resort's make-shift place for reception. There are probably a lot of visitors that day so they decided to have a tent to accommodate groups of people conveniently. They offered a welcome drink and made us pay the Environmental fee of Php30/pax. We also paid the remaining amount due, gave us a map and directed us to Harmony Beach where day tours mostly stay. They offer a free van ride to any point in the beach for you to conveniently bring your bags. I am surprised though that they didn't inspect our bags to check if we brought cooked food. The receptionist only asked if we have cooked meals with us.

We looked for the cozy nook which can be pretty easy to find because of the big trees that served as a shade from the scorching heat of the sun.

Cozy Nook 1
Sorry I don't have a much nicer photo of their cozy nook as we put all of our things immediately when we arrived. Here's how it looked like from their website.

source
This is exactly how it looked like except that tire-swing which was on the other side of the tree. It was the perfect spot since it was close to the beach, we could watch Jami while he's swimming plus that big tree that shields us from direct sunlight. I would say that it was really worth the amount we paid for that spot. I prefer this rather than the nipa hut as it can get a little humid dahil magsisiksikan kayo sa loob. The cozy nook offered us what we need - the beach, the sand, a little of the sun and the fresh breeze of the air.

When we finally settled down, Jami wanted to swim agad so off he went with his playmate, Kuya Angelo. We were starving so we went to their restaurant to check the menu. Food ranges from Php250-450 good for sharing (2-3 persons). They would allow day tours to bring food but with a corkage of Php 200 per head for any cooked/heavy meal food. Breads, chips, spread etc won't be charged. We were considering of just bringing in food but since we will be commuting, we decided to buy from their restaurant instead. I would say that the prices are comparable to Max's restaurant however, I didn't enjoy the food that much. Although it tastes okay but nothing spectacular.

They delivered our food to our nook earlier than lunch time which was fine because we were starving at that point. It took probably around 30-45 minutes earlier than what we expected it to be. We thought it will be delivered to us around 12noon.

After lunch, we immediately went to swim in their pool. I wasn't surprise to see that there were a lot of people during our visit, it's Summer months and Mother's Day too.

The deepest pool height was around 6ft. The farthest pool on this photo was the kiddie pool. I would say that Jami enjoyed the pool so much. As long as he's wearing his borrowed vest from his cousin, he can be left alone. But then, we're not taking any risk so we have either Daryl or his cousin and Kuya Angelo to look after Jami. By the way, their restaurant is located on your right in the photo above. We stayed in their pool for good 30 minutes to 1 hour.

After some photo session with the gang, we decided to eat snacks and enjoy the beach. We were blessed with a weather that's cloudy so it wasn't that harsh to our skins. Just before we decided to head back to our nook, we saw the opportunity for some photo ops.

This was a view deck of their cottages. There were wooden tables and chairs for day tours. It's across their restaurant.

We suddenly wish to go near the cottages. On our way down, we saw a sign that day tours are not allowed to go there but everyone's so busy, we went anyway. Talk about matitigas ang ulo! hahaha.

The farthest cottage

The view
We didn't get the chance to see the cottages inside but some of them have hammocks outside perfect to lounge and watch the horizon. Wow! May ganun?

After our photo op, we went back to our nook to eat merienda. I couldn't believe that Jami's enjoying the place so much. He doesn't want to leave the water. I was kinda worried since he's skipping snacks already so we asked him to sit down for a while and eat. Pahirapan pa talaga. Haha!

I loved how calm and shallow their beach was. It's perfect for families so as not to worry about the safety of the kids. Although please keep in mind to look after them at all times. You don't want to risk their safety right?

They also have this part of the beach where beach weddings could be facilitated.During our stay, a group of men were preparing the venue so we took the chance to take some pictures.

You take nice pictures of them, when it's their time to take your photo.. never mind. =D
By the way, Stilts is well maintained. You can see it in their restroom. It's clean and has a separate shower area and restroom. It has a good supply of water and have place to put your things inside the shower area.

Restrooms/Shower Areas are on the right side of the photo
We ordered plenty of food for our lunch and brought breads, chips and bottled water with no corkage fee. It lasted us for merienda so we didn't order food from their restaurant anymore.

Jami wants to go back to the beach
It was a sad thing that this is the only photo of the three of us here in Stilts. Mostly, it's me with Daryl or me and Jami. Eto ang nag iisang photo, hindi pa maayos. Haha!

At around 3pm, we decided to swim in the beach to get the feel of it and I would say that I enjoyed it too. The sand was white and fine while the water is clear.  I was hoping we have plenty of time to roam around, enjoy the beach and the place. I know that Stilts is a really big property and has a lot of picture perfect place to visit.

Last photo before going home
We left Stilts before 4pm so we could catch the bus from Calatagan to Manila. For summer months, Bus terminal in Calatagan extends up to 6pm for their last trip due to the amount of people going there versus their usual trip of 4pm.

Pros

1. Affordable. For the price of Php385/head, the place is more than it's worth. Kids 6 and below are free of charge.
2. Resort and Beach area are well maintained. They offer a lot of accommodation for a day tour, you just need to reserve upon booking.
3. Free use of pool and beach area included in the entrance fee.
4. Free ride from your cottage to the entrance of the resort. Although you can opt to walk if you still have the energy to do so.
5. Staff are accommodating. From booking process to the actual day of our tour. There were securities roaming around and staff that cleans the beach from time to time.
6. Very close to Manila, perfect for short vacations.
7. You can ask the tricycle driver to pick you up when you are ready to leave the resort. They would usually offer since there were no ways of commuting around the area. The kuya who drove us to Stilts left his mobile number to text him when we are ready to be picked up.

Cons

1. Food tastes okay.Nothing spectacular though for it's price. I hope they could improve on their Sinigang. =)
2. For commuters, you have to cut your day tour short on non Summer months due to buses last trip is at 4pm. If you have a private car then you could stay until 6pm and wait for sunset.

I can't think of anything else that needs to improve on. I just hope they maintain the service they give at all times as Stilts is a wonderful place to stay.

Budget

You will be able to save some if you ride the bus that goes straight to Calatagan instead of riding the Nasugbu bound. Also, I put Php500 for the food but it is adjustable depending on how many food you order. I would say that it would only be for lunch since you could bring light food and water inside the resort without corkage. Bring bread, spread and snacks to save some money as resort prices could be thrice the regular price. If you wish to bring your own cooked food or grill them in the resort, you could do so by paying Php200/head corkage fee.Charge for Cozy Nook or Nipa hut can be divided with your group so it will be a lot cheaper.

Do I recommend Stilts?

Definitely a big Yes! It was a very nice place and day tour doesn't even catch everything that the place has to offer. I hope we could stay longer but we have to go back to Manila for work. I say this is a place we could always come back for some short vacation.
